New minimally invasive surgical treatment for atrial fibrillationThe Ohio State University Medical Center is one of only four centers in the United States performing a new, innovative, minimally invasive procedure to treat and potentially cure atrial fibrillation. This surgery, performed by Dr. John Sirak, is called a Total Thoracoscopic MAZE procedure and is a closed chest, beating heart procedure. It is highly effective in treating all forms of atrial fibrillation, including permanent AF. The totally thoracoscopic approach offers patients a fast recovery and minimal discomfort.
